Meghna riverbank erosion on lives and livelihoods of rural people: impacts and coping strategies

Abstract Riverbank erosion is one of the most hazardous disaster types for Bangladesh. It has both a direct and negative impact on people their livelihoods. This study aims to explore impacts Meghna riverbank coping strategies that have been adopted by affected combat this calamity, considering four unions under Matlab Uttar Chadpur District. The findings reveal occupational status, income expenditure changed due erosion. Ninety-one percent respondents’ houses were fully damaged 48% them are living in shelter houses. results also show large portion populace lost assets suffering from psychological distress.
